Conditions & Injuries

Physical & Mental Conditions

When you fail tests or push rolls in difficult situations, you can suffer Conditions - temporary afflictions representing injury or stress. There are three PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: Exhausted (extreme fatigue), Battered (bruised and hurt), and Wounded (serious injury). MENTAL CONDITIONS are: Angry (rage and emotion), Frightened (fear and terror), and Hopeless (despair and doubt). Each Condition gives you -1 to all rolls using its related attributes.

Accumulation & Breaking

Conditions stack - having two of the same type means -2 to relevant rolls. You must track them carefully. If you already have three Conditions of one type (physical or mental) and suffer a fourth, you become Broken. This is a serious state: you cannot perform any actions. A physically Broken character is unconscious, dying, or too injured to move. A mentally Broken character is too terrified or traumatized to function. Being Broken also means you suffer a critical wound and must roll to determine if you gain a Defect (permanent hindrance) or Insight (permanent benefit).

Healing & Recovery

Conditions can be healed through rest, medical care, emotional support from companions, and using your memento (a personal item of significance). During downtime at Castle Gyllencreutz, you can recover from injuries. The Game Master may allow you to heal Conditions through roleplay - providing emotional support heals mental Conditions, medicine or rest heals physical ones. Using your memento to heal a Condition (explaining how it helps you) is always possible but uses it up for that mystery.
