Vaesen is a Nordic horror roleplaying game set in mythical 19th-century Scandinavia. You play as people with 'the Sight' - the ability to see supernatural creatures called vaesen that are invisible to ordinary humans. Together, you've re-established the Society, an ancient organization dedicated to studying and combating these creatures. The game combines mystery-solving, horror, and adventure as you investigate strange occurrences and protect people from supernatural threats.
People with the Sight are called 'Thursday's Children,' referencing an old nursery rhyme. Your ability to see vaesen came from a traumatic experience - physical or psychological trauma that awakened your supernatural perception. This could have been an accident, witnessing something terrifying, or a direct encounter with a vaesen. This trauma is both your gift and your curse.
The Society was founded centuries ago to protect humanity from vaesen. After the last members abandoned it 10 years ago, you and fellow Thursday's Children have reclaimed Castle Gyllencreutz in Upsala as your headquarters. From here, you prepare for expeditions to remote villages and wilderness areas across Scandinavia, investigating mysteries and driving off vaesen.
